4 End of Summer Dinner Dance FUNdraiser MARK
YOUR CALENDAR Please join the Shay Lake Association for
an evening of Fun—good food, good friends, and a great DJ with lots of good music for dancing the night away.
This is the only Association FUNdraiser for the year, so come on out and support your community.
The proceeds from the dinner dance along with your dues are dedicated strictly to road maintenance, snowplowing,
equipment maintenance, utilities for Pavilion, and insurance. None of the monies paid for dues or from this FUNdraiser are ever used
for purposes of entertainment. The event is on Labor Day Weekend—so
invite your family and friends to come and have a great time. This is a terrific way to entertain your Labor Day guests and
also to show-off our great community and camaraderie. We guarantee that all will have a great time.
For details and ticket availability see Kim Webb (313)303-6800 or Karol Brackins. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy
Bankston are Honorary Co-Chairs of the dinner dance. Tickets are $25.00 per person
and are limited and are advanced sales only—so call and get your tickets now—don’t miss out on the
best party/dinner of the summer. Attire casual. Meet and Greet The Meet and Greet Your Neighbor Potluck was held June 19 at the Pavilion. It was
really great to see so many new faces and meet our new community members. People must have been enjoying
each others company since many of you stayed until 7:00pm. Suggestions
for next year can be given to Kim Webb. Remember for next year that we eat at the beginning of the
event since food cannot safely sit out for long periods of time if not being maintained at a proper refrigerated temperature
for cold dishes or a proper heated temperature for hot foods. We keep your safety in mind at all times.
Environmental Study Group Open Forum
July 24Many members of the Shay Lake Community have many questions concerning the lake,
its environs and fish habitat as well as area wildlife habitat. An open forum has been scheduled for July 24 at the Pavilion at 10:00am with DNR Representative
Jason Smith. If you have questions that you would like to have answered
by the DNR Representative please submit them not later than July 20 to Janet Meyers (989) 683-2376 so that
your questions can be forwarded to the DNR Representative prior to the open forum
All are encouraged to attend and join this effort to study and learn about our environment and solutions to Shay Lake’s
unique environmental issues. The waters of Shay Lake cover approximately 42.7 acres. There
is a continuous flow into and out of the lake. Spring runoff and excess water flow enter and leave through
a designated county drain named Sucker Creek. The watershed draining into Shay Lake consists of approximately
3,314 acres or 5.18 square miles. The surrounding terrain is flat to moderately rolling with soils predominately
Marlette-Capac, Marlette, Perrin, and Boyer. Some Houghton Mucks are found around the lake.
The land adjacent to and fronting on Shay Lake were platted over a period of years for residential and summer cottages.
Many sites are undeveloped and considerable open space exists in the surrounding subdivisions. There
is a mix of permanent homes and seasonal cottages. The population around the lake varies by season.
The major source of water for this lake is ground water. Springs exists within and around the lake.
Many wells in the properties are artesian and some of those run continuously into the lake or Sucker Creek Drain.
Additionally , base flow in the upper Sucker Creek is continuous. Precipitation enters from several
watercourses distributed around the lake including Sucker Creek. Snowmelt contributes to the lake.
Please attend the open forum, learn about your environs and how to protect and preserve the reason you
moved here. If you need other information please contact Janet Meyers. See you there!
