Fifth Annual Shay Lake Kids Fishing Derby!   WOW

Kids and fishing– it’s a time honored American tradition. What a fun way to start your summer vacation.  Kids from all over the area came to Shay Lake on June 12 to try their luck, show their skills, win some prizes and trophies and enjoy a hot dog lunch. The Fifth Annual Shay Lake Kids Fishing Derby was a smashing success—despite the weatherman’s prediction of early morning rain—170 smiling eager faces were in attendance. By mid-morning the sun came out and all the kids had a fantastic time fishing.  Derby Co-chair Janet Meyers reports that the Derby Committee had a total of 198 registered kids and had raised a total of $4000.00 in cash and prizes.  A report will be made available at a later date. This is such a fun-filled event for all the kids– plan in being there next year—bring your kids, grand kids, nieces, nephews or neighbor kids.  The Shay Lake Association would like to thank the Shay Lake Fishing Derby Co-chairs Janet Meyers, Elaina  Francisco, and Bob Adams and the rest of the Fishing Derby Committee and volunteers for their  time and dedication to making this event such a success. Mark your calendar for this event next June.  Looking Forward!

Thank You to Clean-Up and Flower Planting Day Helpers

The volunteers for  the Shay Lake Community Clean-up and Flower Planting Day on May  22 was smaller in number than usual but just as enthusiastic.  The bulk of the crew worked on the Edmund Place Canal for most of the day—years of rotted logs and fallen trees were pulled from this portion of the canal along with other discarded junk.  After a lunch the crew was back at it for the afternoon.  There is another Community Clean-up scheduled for August 21– maybe we will see you there this time.  The Drain Commission has scheduled a spraying to destroy  the weeds in the Sucker Creek Drain on both the North and South side of the lake in early July.

Association Board Elections July 24, 2010

There is still time to get your name on the ballot for the July elections  - to date we still do not have any names submitted for Recording Secretary or Financial Secretary.  Please remember also that in accordance with the Shay Lake Association By-Laws you must be a member in good standing in order to run for election or to cast a vote.  In good standing means that your dues are paid and current.
